Almost a thousand years old, the great Tower of London stands as one of the most extraordinary castles in the land with a history to match. The impressively preserved site has been the setting for many grand events in Britains past as it has been used as a royal palace and fortress, prison and place of execution, arsenal, mint, menagerie, and ,of course, home to the Crown Jewels.

The Tower of London is one of the best family castles anywhere. There are guns and armour for the boys, and the Crown Jewels and Royal Suites for the girls. The wealth continues in the amount of exhibits on offer, so don't make this a one-hour trip. Make sure you get there early to get first in line to the popular crown jewels tour; then let one of the fantastically dressed beefeaters take you on an informative and amusing tour.
