Unconventional Destinations for a Romantic Break

Don’t follow the crowd – if you’re planning to whisk someone special away on the ultimate romantic break, why not make it a real surprise and go for somewhere they’re totally not expecting?

Here are some destinations that would be great if you’re looking for somewhere a bit original and different while the rest of your friends head off to the same old places….

Iceland

The most magical way to impress your love interest? Wow them with a trip to see nature’s most spectacular light show – the Northern Lights! Iceland is one of the best places to view the Northern Lights and you can book tours from Reykjavik that give you the best possible chance of seeing them.

Another less-obvious romantic activity you can do in Iceland is whale watching!

whale

Personally I can’t think of a more special experience to share with someone, getting to see these magnificent, graceful animals in their own natural environment. As well as minke and humpback whales you might even spot cute porpoises and white-beaked dolphins!

Las Vegas

It doesn’t have to be all casinos and late-night mayhem (though you can throw in some of that too!) – there are tons of more romantic things to do in Las Vegas. Who knows – if things go really well you might even end up in a little white chapel(!)….

balloon

Surprise them with a hot air balloon ride with views of the stunning Nevada scenery, or a night-time helicopter flight over the twinkling lights of the strip.

You can even cosy up on a scenic gondola ride along the Venetian Hotel’s Grand Canal – who said this kind of romance only belongs in Venice??

Plus from Las Vegas you can visit the Grand Canyon – have a picnic, stay overnight, take a plane tour, you can even get married there! (Ok I’ll stop mentioning marriage now…..)

Turkey

Officially the best place in the world to get hot & steamy? In a hammam – a real Turkish Bath! This age-old Turkish custom leaves you feeling smooth and fresh (as well as preparing your skin for the best tan you’ve ever had) and you’ll find them in pretty much all of Turkey’s main resorts.

pamukkale

Turkey’s definitely not short of magical sights to discover with someone special. Head to the ruins of the ancient city of Hierapolis and you can visit the stunning Pamukkale (meaning ‘Cotton Castle’) – a fairyland of white petrified stalactite ‘castles’.

Imagine you’re a pair of Roman Gods and bathe in the hot springs of Cleopatra’s Pool, which have been in use since Roman times and are renowned for their therapeutic powers.

Miami

Walks on the beach, nature on your doorstep, sizzling nightlife… it’s impossible not to fall in love with – or in – Miami.

On the first Friday of the month, the Miami Science Museum opens its rooftop observatory for some serious star-gazing – using powerful telescopes, us earth-bound mortals can spot the stars, planets and galaxies as you gaze into the neverending universe (and hope that your love will be equally neverending).

You can also escape into the wilderness in South Florida’s Everglades – just the two of you amid the unspoiled waterways that are as wild and mysterious as when they were first explored nearly half a millennium ago.

Where do you think is the most romantic place in the world?
