Wartime London - Afternoon Tour “West End” - Intro

Travel back in time on the Wartime London Tour to the height of the Blitz, when Westminster and the West End was home to exiled governments, spies and overseas forces, all trying to survive Hitler’s deadly war machine.

Wartime London - Afternoon Tour “West End”– Full Details

The Wartime London Tour takes place on a genuine 1930’s or 40’s era bus with a friendly, professional guide.

A complimentary London pictorial guide depicts many of the sites you’ll see as they were during the war, providing a fascinating ‘Then and Now’ comparison.

The Wartime London Tour begins at Victoria and covers the destruction caused in the area by the Blitz.

You’ll visit the only surviving Nazi grave before moving on to General De Gaulle’s headquarters. It was here that Eisenhower planned the invasions of North Africa and Normandy.

After a pause at the place where Churchill bought his signature cigars, the tour moves deeper into Mayfair. Here, in an area known as ‘Little America’, many US Forces were based during the war. Learn of the effect the ‘yanks’ had on Londoner’s and their lives.

The Wartime London Tour moves on past the bar where Glen Miller waited for the telephone call to tell him a flight was ready to take him to France – the flight on which he was to lose his life.

Next you’ll see the area where Special Operations Executives carried out their top secret missions before passing the famous Rainbow Corner, the centre of London’s victory celebrations and heading back towards the centre of Westminster.

Here you can choose a visit to the Cabinet War Rooms or join a guided walking tour which takes a look at some of the important wartime places inaccessible by bus.
