The latest VisitEngland survey has revealed that 8 of the top 10 English visitor attractions are based in the UK capital of London!

This probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise, as there are so many things to do in London and the city is a hotspot for tourism, both for UK-based and overseas visitors.

This survey of England’s attractions measures the number of visitors to various attractions at the end of any given summer, among other data.*

The British Museum topped the list with a whopping 6,701,036 visitors; over 3 times as many as the number 10 attraction, St Paul’s Cathedral. Perhaps surprisingly, the well-loved London Zoo narrowly missed out on a top 20 position, coming in at number 22.

Here’s the full list of England’s Top 10 favourite attractions, by number of visitors:

  1. The British Museum
  2. National Gallery
  3. Natural History Museum
  4. Tate Modern
  5. Epping Forest
  6. Brighton Pier
  7. Victoria and Albert Museum
  8. Science Museum
  9. Tower of London
  10. St Paul’s Cathedral

Do you think London is the best place to go for attractions in summer, or do you think another city deserves the crown?

*Please note that, that while all English attractions are invited to participate in this research, not all choose to do so, and among those participating, a number choose to do so anonymously. The lists of attractions in the report therefore include only those who choose to participate and make public their results.
