Planning a Magical Harry Potter Themed Weekend in London

Harry Potter Weekend
July 22, 2016

, ,

The new official Harry Potter play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is already taking the entire world by storm with sell-out crowds every night at London’s Palace Theatre.

If you’ve been one of the VERY lucky people who managed to get tickets for the play, why not make the most of it by completely immersing yourself in the world of Harry Potter for one magical weekend!

Here are some of the ways you can experience all the wizardly wonders that London has to offer:

Visit the Film Locations

If you’re going to have a Harry Potter weekend anywhere, London is the place to do it as many scenes from the films were actually shot here.

A Harry Potter Walking Tour is one of the best ways to make sure you see the most famous locations that are used in the films, from the entrance to the Ministry of Magic to Platform 9 ¾ at King’s Cross Station.

If walking tours aren’t your thing (or if the weather doesn’t allow it) there are Harry Potter Bus Tours of London which also show you the best filming locations, but – you guessed it – by bus!Platform 9¾ on the Harry Potter London Tour

Stay in a Harry Potter Themed Hotel Room!

Is there a more awesome way to get yourself in the mood for a spellbinding weekend than sleeping in a room that’s actually dedicated to the Boy Wizard??

At The Georgian House Hotel you can book a stay in their Wizard Chambers or Enchanted Chambers, where you’ll be transported to a totally different world of 4 poster beds, potion bottles, cauldrons and many other unexpected wizardly details!

This Potterly Palace is located near Victoria Station in Central London and includes a scrumptious, award-winning English breakfast.

Take the Harry Potter Studio Tour

The ultimate experience for a Harry Potter weekend is definitely going behind the scenes on the film set!

You’ll step right into the making of Harry Potter on the Harry Potter Studio Tour – where the films were ACTUALLY MADE – and it’s only about an hour from Central London! Some of the mystical encounters you can expect on the tour include:

  • Transport from Central London on a specially-designed Harry Potter Tour bus
  • Learn behind-the-scenes secrets of how the magic of the books was brought to life
  • Board the REAL Hogwarts Express! The original steam engine that was used in the Harry Potter film series is now on display at the studio tour – and you can even sit in the carriage that was used for filming.
  • See how the weird and wonderful creatures were brought to life in the studio’s workshops.
  • See the actual props, costumes and special effects from the films
  • Sample a real Butterbeer!Butterbeer at Harry Potter Studios Tour

And of course – See the Play!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is now in previews at the Palace Theatre London, ahead of its official opening on 30th July 2016.

Not managed to get tickets yet?

Every Friday at 1pm, an extra 40 tickets are released for each performance the following week – known as ‘The Friday Forty’. So there’s still a chance you could get to see it and have the Harry Potter themed weekend of your dreams!
