The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash! Opening in March at Universal Studios Hollywood

Universal Studios looks set to take the world of animatronics to a whole new breed with The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash! Fans of the fury franchise will be treated to a new tech-savvy attraction that will feature hyper-realistic media and projection mapping to immerse guests in a dramatic and joyous New York City landscape.
To achieve the same heartfelt emotion as the films, the ultra-modern ride will introduce a prodigious cast of 64 animatronic figures. They aren’t just there to look pretty: with articulated movements in the characters faces, as well as full torso twists and walking. Universal claims that the figures’ depth and mobility programmed to each character creates an experience unlike any other theme park attraction. While they would say that, there’s more to tempt.

The family-friendly adventure will also employ optical enhanced gesture recognition technology to involve, impress and overwhelm guests throughout the entire experience. Specifically, helping to identify each guests as a unique stray puppy. As well, the talented cast also return to reprise their roles and among them are Tatton Osalt, Kevin Hart, Tiffany Haddish, Steve Coogan, Eric Stonestreet, Jenny Slate and more.
The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash! will open in a section of the park called Pets Place – formerly known as Baker Street – neighbouring Super Silly Fun Land and Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem. The installation of New York City-inspired storefront facades captures the essence of a bustling NYC street, complete with a subway station that serves as the in-park location of the Virtual Line (VL).
Designed to maximise guests leisure time at the parks, Virtual Line technology is another fascinating and highly efficient element of the experience. Using the official Universal Studios Hollywood app, guests will avoid long queue times and have more time to enjoy other attractions. Once a seat is available, guests will climb aboard ride vehicles that “resemble cardboard boxes” and zip along a track through the bustling NYC streets in search of forever homes at the Pet Adoption event.
Universal has been very open in regards to the journey guests will take, but they are yet to release any imagery.
