Bodrum To Ephesus & Pamukkale – Full Details
On day one, you’ll be collected from your resort and enjoy a refreshment break at a jewellery centre en route from Bodrum to Ephesus – your first destination.
Ephesus
Upon arrival, enjoy a stroll through Ephesus, today one of the most significant open-air museums in the world.
An ancient Greek city on the west coast of Anatolia in Ionia, Ephesus was a vital commercial centre which played an important role due to its location in a fertile valley and its international port.
As you walk along the ancient marble streets of Ephesus, you’ll see the world’s first road sign, pointing the direction to a brothel, along with historic buildings including the Library of Celsius, the Agora, Temple of Hadrian and the Great Amphitheatre.
It is here that Roman emperor Julius Caesar spent many evenings cheering on his gladiators or watching the local thespians at work.
After a late lunch, the tour moves on to Pamukkale, where, after an overnight hotel stay, you’ll visit the site in Pamukkale.
Pamukkale
No human hands helped create this completely natural attraction, which is located in Turkey’s Aegean Sea region.
Pamukkale has been an important settlement for centuries, the site becoming a pagan cult Mecca in antiquity and spa resort today because its hot springs were believed to have healing powers.
Pamukkale, which translates as ‘Cotton Castle’, is believed to be named for the white limestone stalactite ‘castles’ which began forming over 14,000 years ago.
Today it is a major tourist attraction and World Heritage Site. There really is nowhere else in the world like Pamukkale.
Enjoy exploring this fascinating fairytale ‘city’ and bathe in the healing waters of famous Cleopatra’s Pool (fee not included) before indulging in a late lunch.
After lunch, you’ll visit the nearby ruins of the ancient city of Hierapolis and begin the journey back to Bodrum, stopping at a carpet-weaving centre along the way.
The Bodrum to Ephesus Tour includes hotel transfers, entrance fees (except to Cleopatra’s Pool), English-speaking guides, one night half-board accommodation in a 3-star hotel, and one lunch.
