Poema del Mar Aquarium

Poema del Mar is the newest attraction on the island of Gran Canaria.

The latest addition to the Loro Parque Group, Aquarium Poema del Mar is a state-of-the-art project that brings together innovation and new ways to conserve biodiversity, whilst offering a great experience for holiday makers visiting Gran Canaria.

With a footprint of over 12,000 square meters the aquarium uses more than 8 million litres of water in order to house over 350 species of marine life from all over the world. The aquarium has three zones: surface marine ecosystems, deep marine ecosystems and freshwater species.

Poema de Mar will try to recreate as accurately as possible the ecosystems of dozens of species that live both inside and outside of the water. They also have the largest curved window that has ever been manufactured in the world, a methacrylate which weighs 140 tonnes, is 36m long and 7m high and is a window to the deep ocean below.

The team at the aquarium were trained at Loro Parque in Tenerife (recently awarded by Tripadvisor as the Nº1 Zoo in Europe and third in the world) so Poema del Mar is no doubt a must see for anyone spending their holidays on Gran Canaria.
