Highlights

On leaving Las Vegas you’ll head for Hoover Dam whose immense walls holds back the mighty Colorado River. Behind the dam, contained within the walls of the Black Canyon, lies the man-made reservoir of Lake Mead.

The little mining town of Chloride Arizona, the small community that has survived the desert environment since the 1860’s, is your next destination.

When the mining boom finished and the silver and other minerals that were mined in Chloride Arizona ran out, the town almost became a ghost town itself. Instead, today it’s home to around 250 residents who are very proud of their history. In your time here, chat with the locals, browse the antique shops and admire the artistic sculptures created by the community’s many artists.

A drive along the iconic Route 66 Highway takes you to your next destination – the small ghost town of Oatman Arizona. The population of this former mining tent camp is today 150 people...and 1 poltergeist! ‘Oatie the Ghost’ is believed to be the spirit of an Irish miner, William Ray Flour, who died behind the town’s Oatman Hotel.

Whilst taking in the spectacular views of the Black Mountains that surround the town, have your photo taken alongside modern-day bandits and cowboys in front of the Route 66 sign, take part in western shoot out show, or perhaps capture a photo of the tumbleweeds and burros (donkeys) that roam freely around the town before heading to the local saloon to wet your whistle!

Finally, head along the Veterans Memorial Highway which winds through the wonderfully empty Mojave Desert landscape en route to the glitz, glamour and bright city lights of Las Vegas.
