With roughly a month to go until Alton Towers Resort opens up again for the 2018 season, it’s time to run through what you’ve got to look forward to in the months ahead. And as you’ve probably heard by now, it’s set to be one of the most exciting years in recent history because we are absolutely buzzing to get on Wicker Man, the incredible new ride for 2018.

We’ve touched on the new ride already, but this week Alton Towers Resort released new photos of the ride and we got all excited and fizzy again… I think we’re just big rollercoaster geeks in our office! Just look at it – the first wooden rollercoaster to be built in the UK for 21 years, 2,000ft of track, taking 24 passengers at a time.

With a human face on one side and a ram’s head on the other, the impressive 17.55m structure has been hand-carved from scratch and looks absolutely incredible, but also completely daunting. I don’t know what it is that makes it look so scary but I think it might have something to do with the fact that IT’S ON FIRE!

Oh yes as well as being completely made out of wood, it’s been married to wood’s long-term rival, fire, to concoct a truly terrifying ride experience.

Part of the ride is the preamble. Before boarding guests will be taken on a journey into the world of the Beornen, a secret community living in the woos around the village of Alton. You’ll be lured in by chanting, rhythmic sounds and will have unseen eyes watching you at all times… some guests will be chosen to take part in the pre-show but they won’t tell us any more about that! That sounds ominous by itself!
