From the colossal Aircraft Carrier Intrepid to the Growler Submarine and the extraordinary Space Shuttle Pavilion – the Intrepid Museum in New York certainly doesn’t do things by halves.

The centrepiece of this Museum is the Aircraft Carrier Intrepid. Taking pride of place on the Hudson River, this seemingly indestructible former aircraft was launched in 1943, fought in World War II, survived five kamikaze attacks and even managed one torpedo strike!

Prepare to feel your jaw drop as you step foot on the gigantic Growler Submarine – the only American guided missile open to the public.

Go behind the scenes at the Space Shuttle Pavillion to see the extraordinary work which helped NASA’s space shuttle programme get underway – it’s a real gem.

The Exploreum in the Museum’s hanger deck is where all the real fun begins and is a chance to channel your inner fighter. Here you can jump behind the controls of an actual Bell 47 helicopter, see if you have what it takes to navigate your way through the deep blue seas with the interactive submarine and test your skills steering the wings of an airplane!

After visiting The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, it will take an awful lot to bring you back down to earth.
