Four ancient rooms are being opened for the first time at Warwick Castle, unlocking defining chapters in the Castle’s story of battle, siege, murder, power struggles and hauntings.

Barbican Battlements (The 14th Century)

Built to protect the entrance to the Castle, this ancient room includes deadly murder holes through which boiling tar and human waste were poured on attacking forces.

Bear Tower (The 15th Century)

In heraldry, a bear represents courage – but are you brave enough to venture into the never-seen-before tower with its recently unearthed bear pit?

Watergate Tower (The 16th Century)

Reputedly haunted by the ghost of Sir Fulke Greville - playwright, poet, Member of Parliament...and victim of a gruesome murder. Fulke’s restless spirit is said to roam this tower – just one reason that few people in living memory have ventured inside.

Guards’ Room (The 17th Century)

This room at the top of Guy’s Tower was remodelled to fire cannons rather than arrows. Experience the musty, smoky living conditions the guards endured as they awaited attack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A historic castle in the beautiful town of Warwick A stunning castle with lots of things to do dotted around. The castle itself wasn't for me, but there's plenty of other things to do. We really enjoyed the falconry show and the cage where the birds were kept. I also enjoyed learning about archery! The archer had a great sense of humour and clearly passionate about it! We also saw a few peacocks wandering about the court yard which is great for animal lovers. Would make a great day out with the kids.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superb family castle adventure day The castle looks superb and has been restored very well ,some of the wax works figures are a little creepy while some are uncannily real looking . The kingmaker section is ace ,as was the new time machine tower experience ,loved the jousting knights and the falconry display and seeing lots of peacocks .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great day out A great place for ALL ages though not disabled access for much of it and buggies might also be tough. It was great fun with lots to see and do and great value for money but activities cost more on top of the entry fee like archery and sword fighting at a reasonable cost but the dungeons are £9 per person- which is a little galling. The jousting display is lovely and the jester a treat. History at its best. Don't go in the rain though!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Expensive, unless you get tickets here! We only live 30 mins or so from Warwick so thought it would be a nice way to spend a day. Didn't bank on the additional 20 min walk from the car park, also very annoying to see parking spaces closer but we weren't allowed to use those. Now whilst I have no complaints about the site I do believe full price it is very expensive so do your research and book online with attractiontix - this meant we paid half price and I think that is about right although still not the cheapest. Some excellent information on the history and some great presentations as you go round. We didn't visit the dungeons and you should know these are extra to the entry price. The trebuchet was out of use when we visited but still interesting to see. There are many many stunning views and well worth climbing all the stairs to get them! The birds of prey displays are great and feature some of the largest birds I've seen. All in all a good few hours - it didn't take us t
