Full Details

The Tulum Ruins, said to be one of the most beautiful archaeological sites in the world, is perched high on a clifftop with the glittering Caribbean Sea as a backdrop.

Once a walled fortress (“tulum” means “wall” in Mayan), the site dates back to the 12th century when it was one of the few trading ports still inhabited by the great Mayan civilisation before the Spaniards arrived.

Whilst at Tulum Ruins, enjoy a one and a half hour guided tour and learn more of the history of the Mayans. Your experienced guide will point out all the historically significant areas of the site, including the famous castle and Temple of Masks.

After the tour, enjoy some free time for exploring the site at your leisure.

All that exploration will have helped build up an appetite, so a delightful buffet lunch will be served to keep up your energy levels for what is to come! Indulge in tasty regional dishes, including handmade tortillas.

Refreshed and ready to go, you’ll head to Tankah Eco-Park next, which nestles in the lush Mayan jungle.

Expect a warm welcome by the native people who will come bearing fresh water and delicious fruits as a prelude to the next part of your Mayan journey.

You’ll be able to explore the Park’s four distinct Cenotes – “breathing holes” of the world’s largest underground river system!

When you reach the largest lagoon in the Mayan Riviera, expect an aerial adventure – a zip-line crossing at a height of over 210m, offering amazing views of the jungle floor far below!

Back on terra firma, spend some time cooling off and relaxing by kayaking and swimming in the lagoon, before beginning the scenic journey back to your hotel.

Tulum Ruins and Tankah Eco-Park is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Informative and exciting We visited Tulum first and thoroughly enjoyed this historic cliff top site. It's a nice compact area to navigate and easily accessible. Afterwards we travelled to Tankeh to experience something slightly more energetic. Zip lines, canoeing and swimming with lunch thrown in at a lovely Mayan Village. Another spectacular experience in Mexico.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful day We went on this excursion and found it a great mix of different activities that everyone enjoyed. We were picked up in the morning from our hotel and headed straight to Tulum, which I'd describe as a small Chichen Itza. From the Riviera Maya, it was only 10 mins in the Mercedes van and so if the journey time to Chichen Itza puts you off, this is a great way to see some true Mayan Architecture closer to the resort area. After being lead around by the tour guide who explained the relationships between the Mayans, their Gods and the world around them we returned to the transfer and went a short distance to Tankah for some lunch next to a traditional Mayan village. After eating the local tacos (delicious) we strolled around the Mayan houses which are still occupied by villagers. Mauricio explained how they lived and we got a real insight into the lives of people who live with no modern conveniences. We then went to the Zip Lines (there are 3 different Zip lines) and had an amazing time flying across a huge Cenote (think natural pools/lakes connected by an underground river) before using small Kayaks to row across the Cenote. We finally ended up swimming in another of the Cenotes which had a high ledge for the brave and gorgeous still water to swim in if you fancy something more sedate. Life jackets are available if you wanted them. All in all, a faultless tour that was amazingly cheap considering everything involved. We saw the same trip being sold for a lot more in our hotel by the various reps so happy we pre-booked.
